How To Get A Medical Marijuana Presciption In Texas

Getting a Texas medical marijuana program is called Texas’s Compassionate Use Program (CUP). It is a low-THC medical program that involves speaking with a doctor and discussing if medical marijuana would be a good treatment option for you. To become a Texas medical marijuana patient, you can first talk with one of our doctors (100% online via secure video chat) to see if you qualify and we will help you through the application process. Please note, because Texas’s Compassionate Use Program is based on a prescription program and not a card, patients would not be eligible to apply for temporary cards in other states that have reciprocity.

Qualifying Conditions:

To become a patient of Texas’s Compassionate Use program you must first be diagnosed with a severe, debilitating, or life-threatening medical condition, and be a Texas resident. The qualifying conditions include:

The Appointment Process

During your appointment, you will be asked to describe your medical condition, and history of any medication taken (if any) for the doctor to understand your health, condition, and if medical marijuana is a suitable alternative to consider. During the appointment, the doctor will explain the specifics of using medical marijuana as a treatment choice. After this appointment, you will receive a formal medical marijuana recommendation (assuming you qualify).

After Approval

Once approved, the doctor will register you in the Compassionate Use Registry. Once the physician has entered you into the registry, you will have the ability to go to any of the state-approved dispensaries to have your prescription filled.

There are currently 3 dispensing organizations within the state of Texas – they are:

  • Fluent was licensed on September 1, 2017.
  • Compassionate Cultivation was licensed on October 31, 2017.
  • goodblend (Surterra Texas) was licensed on December 15, 2017.

The Texas CUP does not currently charge a fee for patients to be registered in the system.
